Board of Trustees

The SA Foundation is governed by a volunteer Board of Trustees. They are very well acquainted with the SA Foundation’s core values, particularly in regards to servanthood, personal recovery and community and come from different walks of life and have various professional backgrounds.

The SA Foundation’s governance includes an organizational culture that is based on a 2-fold structure:

  • A business-like system that provides clear definitions on its consumers, products and social investors and that is structured with a non-profit charitable mandate to carry out, for the benefit of program participants (the consumers), its vision and mission (the product), with the support of individuals (the social investors).
SAF’s business-like system is supported by 3 levels of governance responsibility that are carried out by the leadership that abides by this governance structure. These 3 levels are the Voting Membership, the Board of Trustees and the Organizational Development Team (ODT). Such structures promote power with others versus power over others, while embracing the fact that governance itself is about power, control, authority and influence.
  • A Christian-based community framework that is developed as an internal community centered on faith and unity in Christ and based on personal recovery, a working community centered on the SA Foundation’s core values and mission, and a community connected to SAF internationally through the Accreditation program.

The purpose of the Board of Trustees is to ensure, on behalf of its Voting Membership, that the vision and mission of the SA Foundation provides their intended benefit for program participants and meets its intended social impact at the right cost.

The purpose of the Board of Trustees’ job is to govern and manage the affairs of the SA Foundation. It is also to define on a yearly basis the Foundation’s position regarding its social return on investment (SROI) and to produce policies that not only deal with practices and methods, but situations and conduct as well (adapted from the Carver Policy Governance Model).
