“There is real risk in times of crisis that those most vulnerable could get re-exploited or trafficked, an injustice we are determined to stand against!”

We have entered into a new season, one that no one expected or could have fully prepared for. This COVID-19 pandemic has caused us to rethink how we provide services to the vulnerable populations we care for, has limited our contact with our communities to online classes and mentorship and reduced our available income and resources. The women and children we serve are our top priority at this time and we must ensure their safety, locally and globally.

We urgently need to raise $100,000 over the coming several months to cover the emergency needs of the four SA Programs we support financially. These Programs are in Athens, Budapest, Vancouver and Kathmandu.

The leaders, women and children there are in complete lockdown, where passes are needed for any venture outdoors. Classes have moved online and the whole community is rallying to ensure the safety and security of those they support. The risk of re-exploitation is great in times of crisis such as this, especially as the majority of the women being served have been rescued from the refugee camps. The need to stabilize these safe homes and provide for these women is more crucial than ever.

Europe fast became an epicentre of the pandemic, with dense populations and ease of travel. The Program in Budapest has experienced complete lockdown, as in Greece, with volunteers unable to come and provide support. Instead, they too have been able to hold online classes, and provide support and friendship through the volunteers regularly contacting the women. There is little government support in Hungary, so any additional financial support is a life line to them at this time.

Though we don’t have the same kind of lockdown measures in BC currently, there is still the constant challenge of self isolation and ensuring provision of programming and babysitting services to allow the women the time to do their recovery work and skill training within the safety of our community homes. Classes are online now and the community still keeps in close communication, with daily devotions, step work, skill training and mentorship. We value and want to ensure the protection of job training and employment for the women within positions currently. We are currently able to continue this within the limits of the social distancing measures.

Besides the large program supported here, with over 17 women in the recovery classes, and 6 babies in the daycare, we also support the many adopted children within the home of the leaders. This beautiful and large family and Program are all in lockdown, but it is a challenging time in such a poor, developing nation. There is no government support and even getting essential food out to the poor has its many challenges with the restrictions in place. There is no one else to support these many women, children and staff in this time. Staff are able to ensure classes are continuing with the support of live- in staff, but continued financial provision to stabilize this Program is essential to many lives here and would ensure the continued safety of the women and children.

Why We Need You Champions!

As with most ‘not for profit’ organizations, over the summer months funds are usually tight as donations do not come in as regularly. This, combined with our current inability to host our usual fundraising events leaves us in a situation where we have severely restricted resources. We understand that all people across the globe are being affected one way or another due to this virus, and we know we are asking for radical generosity here… BUT we are certain that with complete dependence on our loving and gracious God we can together meet the needs of these essential Programs, ensuring the many precious women and children served and offered a hope and a future by these Programs, can remain safe and still have their life of freedom!
